I have read many of the works on this list and would definitely agree that their influence on the development of this country is huge!

I love that LoC decided to pay tribute to the influence of literature. There are so many people today that just look right over literature and the arts and turn right to technology, but before there was technology, we had literature and the written word.

Thanks for sharing!Jennifer @ A Librarians Libraryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01570884873457416016noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1443975946169282250.post-31014443437817832162012-08-24T12:56:02.131-05:002012-08-24T12:56:02.131-05:00What an amazing post, thanks so much for sharing a...What an amazing post, thanks so much for sharing all those e-books. At first I became a little sad because I hadn't read any of the books in the list, but then came The Scarlet Letter and others, which was a relief.

I'm surprised Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Self reliance and other essays" was not included. I'm not American, but I think this is a pretty important and influential book, wouldn't you say?

Have a great weekend ;)

Paulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16549467720857136573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1443975946169282250.post-29412122042290298912012-08-22T14:07:51.136-05:002012-08-22T14:07:51.136-05:00Thanks, Adina. But thank goodness the Library of Congress gave us their rationales for their choices. Thank you so much for stopping by. And you're quite welcome. But having seen the entire list, I think it quite a comprehensive list. I love the explanations too, I see a lot of those works in a whole new light now! I'll definitely be perusing Franklin's autobiography and Douglass's memoirs. Peter Parsley and Spock sound like entertaining reads also.
