The Stephanie Plum Saga Continues with Explosive Eighteen

I finally was able to read Smokin' Seventeen by Janet Evanovich last week. I have to say I was a little disappointed. I didn't pee my pants laughing. Not once. But it would be inhumane to expect an author to knock it out of the park EVERY time. Will I stop reading my beloved Stephanie Plum series? Not a chance. I love the shenanigans she gets herself into. Very funny stuff.

The next book in the series, Explosive Eighteen comes out this month. It's release date is November 22. I'm very excited and hope it makes me laugh my ass off. Here's the synopsis:
Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum’s life is set to blow sky high when international murder hits dangerously close to home, in this dynamite novel by Janet Evanovich.

Before Stephanie can even step foot off Flight 127 Hawaii to Newark, she’s knee deep in trouble. Her dream vacation turned into a nightmare, and she’s flying back to New Jersey solo. Worse still, her seatmate never returned to the plane after the L.A. layover. Now he’s dead, in a garbage can, waiting for curbside pickup. His killer could be anyone. And a ragtag collection of thugs and psychos, not to mention the FBI, are all looking for a photograph the dead man was supposed to be carrying.

Only one other person has seen the missing photo—Stephanie Plum. Now she’s the target, and she doesn’t intend to end up in a garbage can. With the help of an FBI sketch artist Stephanie re-creates the person in the photo. Unfortunately the first sketch turns out to look like Tom Cruise, and the second sketch like Ashton Kutcher. Until Stephanie can improve her descriptive skills, she’ll need to watch her back.

Over at the bail bonds agency things are going from bad to worse. The bonds bus serving as Vinnie’s temporary HQ goes up in smoke. Stephanie’s wheelman, Lula, falls in love with their largest skip yet. Lifetime arch nemesis Joyce Barnhardt moves into Stephanie’s apartment. And everyone wants to know what happened in Hawaii?

Morelli, Trenton’s hottest cop, isn’t talking about Hawaii. Ranger, the man of mystery, isn’t talking about Hawaii.  And all Stephanie is willing to say about her Hawaiian vacation is . . . It’s complicated.
The hardcover edition of Explosive Eighteen contains a tear-out calendar inside!

The movie version of One for the Money is slated for release on January 27, 2012. It stars Katherine Heigl as Stephanie, Jason O'Mara as Joe Morelli, Daniel Sunjata as Ranger, Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur, and Sherri Shepherd as Lula. Were these the actors you would have chosen? I can see Sherri Shepherd as doing a very good Lula. I have my fingers crossed that it sticks to the book as close as possible. I hate seeing a movie of a book that I loved that barely resembles it. Feeling pretty optimistic with this one. Check out the trailer:

Happy reading,
Angela

  1. When I first started the Stephanie Plum series, Eleven on Top had just come out. I read all 11 books in 1 week. I just couldn't put them down! I then waited expectantly for June every year thereafter, so excited for the newest Stephanie novel to come out. Sadly, every year the books just seem to become more and more of a disappointment. I would personally put this particular book on level with #14-just plain stupid. Many of the reviewers have mentioned that all of the characters were, well out of character in this book and I agree! What I first loved about the series was the perfect mix of comedy, suspense, and a twisted sort of romance. Now the books are full of hobbits, voodoo, wacky animals, and "vampires". There is definitely a genre for this nature of storytelling but the Stephanie Plum books I came to love weren't part of it! When Sharp Twelve came out, if the back of the book would have told me that a new book was coming out a mere 6 months later, I would have been ecstatic! I would have been practically counting down the days. Now, I'm apprehensive to even read another Stephanie book.
