Tony Danza - From Who's the Boss? to Head of the Class

Remember the TV show Who's the Boss? It aired from 1984-1992. I loved that show. It starred Tony Danza, a very young Alyssa Milano, Judith Light, Katherine Helmond, and Danny Pintauro (who was also in the movie, Cujo). Totally beginning to get off track. I'm sure you're getting used to it (at least that is my hope). And I thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by to read my ramblings despite this horrible habit.

Anyway, Kathie Lee and Hoda interviewed Mr. Danza on the Today Show this morning. He's promoting his book, I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High, that's been released today.

The book is a  memoir of his year of teaching tenth-grade English at Philadelphia's largest high school. Most of the kids were too young to have seen him on TV, so his acting credentials didn't mean squat to them. He was just another teacher.  A and E captured Danza's adventure on film with a reality show called Teach: Tony Danza. You can read more about the project and watch a few full episodes online.

What I knew of Tony Danza was well, nothing. Other than he was an actor. So I was especially curious as to what qualified him to teach actual teenagers. With a little Googling, I came to find that he earned a Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Dubuque in 1972.

That's all I have for now. I just wanted to share. The book sounds like it's pretty good from the reviews.

Talk to you soon,
Angela

  1. Sounds like an interesting book. I still remember Danza from his Who's the Boss series, I never watched the reality show but it does sound like something to check out.

  3. As a teacher I am definitely curious about the book and the show! I loved Who's the Boss when I was growing up. Based on the title of the book it sounds like Tony must have learned what it is like to be in the front of the class. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Tony Danza worked as a teacher and had a degree in History?! That's so surreal! It's funny that his students didn't know he was an actor and if they knew I imagine they wouldn't make a big deal out if it.

I'm also a teacher and just like Stephanie I became curious about the show. I'm off to watch the first episode. ;)

    Have a great weekend xx
