Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten All Time Favorite Characters in Books

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Wow, this is a tough one. How do you pick just ten favorite characters? I'll give it a shot, but I reserve the right to change my mind at any given time :)

In no particular order, here goes:
  1. Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I love that she's smart and just oozes confidence.
  2. It's hard to pick just one character from The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It's hard to believe that this was Stockett's first novel. It is so well written. I love Skeeter's sass. And I will always love Aibileen for "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." And of course, Minnie for her Terrible Awful, and her just all-around hotheadedness.
  3. As a kid, I adored Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren. What's not to love? She marches to the beat of her own drummer, has superhuman strength, and her assertiveness was definitely a quality I wished I had more of. It was especially great when she got back at the adults that deserved it.
  4. Donald "Sully" Sullivan from Nobody's Fool by Richard Russo. The movie version of this book starring Paul Newman is one of my favorites. At first glance, Sully appears to be just hanging around. But upon further inspection, he plays an important role in the lives of most of the town of North Bath, NY.
  5. John Coffey from The Green Mile by Stephen King. This is the only book I've ever read by King. I don't like to be scared. Hubby assured me that The Green Mile wasn't scary. Oh, I'm glad he did. I read the six books and fell in love with John Coffey. Such a gentle giant.
  6. I have a hard time picking one character from the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich. You guys are going to get sick of hearing me talk about them. What can I say. Sorry. Anyway, I love Stephanie for her bumbling ineptitude, and the trouble she always seems to get out of. Not always completely unscathed. But the two hotties she has in her life seem to always have her back (man, are they HOT in my mind), Carlos "Ranger" Manoso and Joe Morelli. How do you choose? And last, but not least, Lula. Well she just cracks me up. But wait, so does Grandma Mazur. Crap. I seem to have almost ten with just one book!
  7. I've always loved Laura Ingalls. But she's not really a character. It's nonfiction. Oh, well I already typed it so it's staying. And while I'm on real people...
  8. Anne Frank. Who lives through the wretchedness that she witnessed and becomes the awesome person that Anne Frank grew up to be?
That seems to be plenty. I could list my favorite characters for quite some time. It would be rude of me not to let you get in a word edgewise. Who are some of your favorite characters?

Thank you so much for stopping by. I love the company. Come back soon.

Talk to you later.
