Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books to Read in a Day

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I apologize for being a little behind today. Hubby finally came home last night. Three months is a looong time. We'll leave it at that.

For my Top Ten, I've chosen classics that are less than 200 pages long. A couple of them are much less than my 200-page limit, so you could maybe read more than one in a day. And bonus, many of the titles are available as free eBooks.

So without further ado, here goes (in no particular order):

1. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells

2. Animal Farm by George Orwell

3. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

5. The Pearl by John Steinbeck

6. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

7. Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton

8. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

9. Persuasion by Jane Austen

10. The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

Happy reading, and as always thanks a billion for stopping by!
Angela

  1. I didn't know there were so many short classics, I'll have to get to these.

  2. Thank you so much for stopping by! I love that a lot of these are available as free eBooks.

  3. OK How sad is it that I've yet to read a single one of those books?! My two favorite short classics are Much Ado About Nothing and The Importance of Being Ernest. They are both like just reading the movies, which I love! Thanks for stopping by my Top Ten!

  4. Great list! I don't remember if I read Persuasion in a day, which is why I didn't put it on my list, but I remember not being able to put it down when I got to the second half of the novel--needed to know what would happen to Anne and Wentworth! xD <333 that novel =)

Thanks for dropping by my blog earlier today =D

My pleasure. You just can't go wrong with Jane Austen.

  5. So I have to say that we have very different tastes in the books we read. Everything in your list would take me weeks. I cannot do classics in a day although I did read A Tale of Two Cities in two days. But I did love Of Mice and Men; Animal Farm just creeped me out a little. Interesting list!

I feel like Persuasion is so often overlooked, so it was nice to see it here.

  7. You have great taste in books! The Great Gatsby, The Scarlet Letter and Persuasion are AHHHH-mazing. Seriously. I think Pride and Prejudice is my favorite Austen, but sometimes I think it's Persuasion. I love it so much! A few of the other books you mentioned are on my Classics Club list - so I'll be reading them soon :)

Thanks so much for stopping by. It's always nice to see you. The Pearl is really short, and a great story. But I love Steinbeck, so I am a bit biased.

  19. What a list! I think I may need to get back to the classics. Some of them, like Gatsby and Ethan Fromme, I haven't read since high school as my experience of them at that time wasn't so great.

Thank you for stopping by my top ten this week :)

  27. THE TIME MACHINE is an excellent novel. I do like H.G. Wells, and have ever since I read THE WAR OF THE WORLDS when I was about 9 or 10. The commentary in THE TIME MACHINE is perhaps more a propos today than it was back then... :)
