Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Older Books That I Hope People Never Forget About

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
With about a bagillion new books released each year, it's easy for great books to get forgotten about. Kind of like the toys in Toy Story. Anyway, following is my list of books that I hope are never forgotten. I hope they are opened and read with a new zeal for a very long time. I'm sure this list will continue to change. But for now, here it is. In no particular order.

  1. The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. You have got to hope that a series that infectiously got millions of children to get excited about reading, is popular for a long, long time.
  2. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I love that Picoult's writing of controversial issues gets the reader to think for themselves.
  3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Ahhh, the power of books.
  4. The Help by Kathryn Stockett. A debut novel that was foolishly rejected 60 times. With its unassuming cover art, this book holds a timeless story of hope laced with humor. Loved it.
  5. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. You didn't think I wouldn't try and sneak this one in (again) did you? It's kind of like my personal Where's Waldo. Where can I sneak in my all-time favorite book?
  6. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Yeah. I see it too. The theme of race relations in my 4th, 5th, and now, 6th spots.
  7. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I loved this beautifully written story of the bond that exists between humans and animals.
  8. And now finally (I only have time for 8 this week), Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America by Barbara Ehrenreich. In this incredible expose into trying to live on minimum wage in America, Ehrenreich shows that "unskilled" jobs require enormous amounts of skill - both mental and physical.
Do you have a favorite book that you hope stands the test of time? Do tell.

Thank you so much for coming by,
Angela

  8. I really need to read The Secret Life of Bees--I picked up a copy of the Mermaid Chair at a library sale and loved it (though judging by the Goodreads reviews I was one of the few who did), and everyone says the Secret Life of Bees is soooo much better.

  10. For some reason I didn't think to include HP on my list! I think it was because I was trying to think of books not as well-known. But I definitely think HP should have been on my list.
