2013 Reading Challenges

These will be my first reading challenges that I've participated in, and I'm pretty excited. I've only chosen two, I don't want to set myself up for failure right out of the gate of 2013. So without further ado.

6/50 books

The goal of this challenge hosted by Book Journey is to try to read a book set in each of the 50 states of the US between January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2013. Sounds fun, right?

For the Foodies Read Challenge I hope to finish at the Sous-Chef level which is 9-13 books read between January 1, 2013 - December 31, 2013. A food book is a book which is centered around food and/or drinks. It can be a cookbook, a food biography or memoir, a nonfiction book focused around a specific food, wine, chef or restaurant. Also allowed is fiction in which food plays a major role.

Check out A Novel Challenge, it is the most comprehensive list of challenges available I've ever seen. And I need to send out a very heartfelt thank you to The Book Vixen for the very easy-to-follow tutorial on coding the reading challenge progress bars.

Happy reading,

  1. Thanks for stopping by my blog this week! This is my first time visiting your blog -- I'm a new follower =)

You've chosen some interesting challenges ... totally different from the challenges that I've seen on most other blogs. Good luck! That 50 states one looks most challenging -- I think I'd have better luck with reading a book set in each Canadian province or territory ... there's only 13 =P

    1. Thank you, Stephanie. I chose these particular challenges because they're not genre-specific too.

  8. I love the idea of reading a book that takes place in all the states. I'll have to look for that challenge next year as this year will not be a heavy reading year for me. Good luck!

  9. I'm doing the Foodies Read challenge to and I'm so excited for that one! I'd love to a US challenge like the one you joined, but I'm not a fast enough reader to finish it in a year -- maybe something worth keeping track of though. Good luck with these challenges and thanks for coming to check out my blog :)

  10. I'm from the Mississippi Gulf Coast - used to work at a bookstore called Bookends before Hurricane Katrina destroyed it. There are so many great books set in Mississippi, but one of my favorites is Touched by Carolyn Haines. just a suggestion. PS I love your idea.
